OK, well re-establishment of the brand then! Following discussions with AFRA and our own despair of the SISK mentality I have been pondering on how exactly we can describe what we do. I'm just doing a reciprocal link with the Allied forum so that's why I have brought it up now. At the moment the header of the forum and head of the web site is shared and I am proposing to differentiate the two. The forum is OK as 'The UK home of WW2 airsoft' since the forum is a broad church and does specifically cover airsoft guns and games. It might be an idea to stick the word 'community' in there as some people are unable to differentiate what people say on the forum and what CiA does in it's games. maybe 'The UK WW2 Airsoft Community forum' would be perfectly adequate. Now then, US - and that's the CiA web site and CiA section of the public forum. Historically the slogan has been 'The Home of WW2 Themed Airsoft in the UK' and more latterly 'The UK Home of WW2 airsoft'. Neither are true for CiA as game organisers and I would like to drop the 'airsoft' altogether. Our vinyl banners just says 'WW2 battles' which is a simplification but fine just to show where the entrance is. So, what keywords are there? Re-enactment - we can't use that (unless the word can be qualified) as it is legitimately used by others and has specific meaning for some. Airsoft - we are much more than that and it has a specific meaning in relation to VCRA and implications thereof Battles - that's what we do Filmsim - used by Josh. Again, I think we are more than that - it's not a bad analogy but it does imply no basis in fact, which isn't true. Games - I think this is to be avoided, sounds very much like playing Themed - well, that's very SISK Live battles - much more 'live' than a re-enactors blank-fire battle but has connotations of 'live rounds' Real battles - they are real, much more real than re-enactors battles Role play - hmmm, there is an great deal of role play but it sounds like rubber swords and viking helmets Simulation - sounds like a computer strategy game Battle-sim - again, computer game Live - as in Clothes Show Live Live-action - well, that's LARP isn't it Now then , I've been looking at thesauruses and web definitions of reenactment and stumbled on the word 'combat' which pretty much describes what we do - we don't stand behind a rope showing a MOP what an MP40 looks like (education) or have public battles (entertainment/education) or sit in fox holes for two days eating spam (living history) BUT we do fight - the prime element in an airsoft game. My proposal for discussion - 'Comrades in Arms - WW2 live-combat battles' or 'Comrades in Arms - WW2 live combat events'

Yes, but if they've registered the name and phrase we could get into trouble. Plus I would want ANY confusion with Gayzer Quest.

That said, I actually don't like it much anyway.

The problem with the word 'event' is that to a degree it's passive - something provided for someone else to experience. However, we are active - the player's participation makes the event.

WW2 + Historical - a bit pointless
We don't simulate anything - it's all real
Campaign isn't political but it isn't what we do.

WW2 - fine
Combat - fine
just one more word along the lines of 'event' would sort it

But I do like the idea of personalising it somewhat.

Don't like front line at all. It clashes with that website plus reminds me of flea treatment for cats.

I've gone through all the 'event' autonyms that I can think of.....I know what you mean but can't quite put my finger on it. I suspect it's reenactment though.
